Jonsland Pedigree Blue Texel Sheep

In 2006 we bought two pure bred Pedigree Blue Texel ewes to start a new flock of Blue Texel Pedigree Sheep. The emphasis on good conformation and tight skins with the correct markings.

We bought a yearling ewe from D.G. Jones & M.H. Jones from the Dulas flock. She was 1st prize Yearling Ewe at the NSA Sheep sale at Builth Wells September 2006.

We also bought a two year old ewe from Mr Dennis Davies Marteg flock at his dispersal sale September 2006. She was the mother of the ram lamb (Jonsland - UK-701568-4701-N) below that was Champion overall Blue Texel at the Royal Welsh Show 2007.

In 2008 we bought four Blue Texel in lamb Yearling Ewes from David and Jennifer Alexander (Millside flock)

Two year old Ram who was Supreme Champion Blue Texel and Reserve Champion overall in the continental sheep section at The Royal Welsh Show 2010. He is by Jonsland UK-701568-4701-N (see below) who won the breed championship at the Royal Welsh Show 2007.

• The NSA Sheep Sale at Builth Wells September 2009

We bought one Yearling Ewe and a Ram at the NSA Sheep sale at Builth Wells September 2009. The Ram was first prize Shearling Ram and overall Champion Blue Texel and the Ewe was first prize yearling ewe and Reserve Champion overall Blue Texel at the sale. Both sheep were bought from David and Jennifer Alexander (Millside flock)

Blue Texel sheep are one of the most recent breeds to be imported into the UK.

Blue Texels are quickly gaining popularity with commercial sheep farmers as terminal sires for prime lamb production.

• Blue Texels are -

• Ideal terminal sires, crossing well with any type of ewe, e.g. Lleyns, Mules etc

• over 90% of lambs born will be WHITE

• easily lambed, smaller heads

• good vigorous lambs at birth, stand and suck their mothers quickly

• finished lambs are well fleshed with excellent conformation

• quality carcases with a high killing out percentage achieving premium grades

• easily finished off grass, hence avoiding extra feed costs

• suit low input and organic systems

• rams good workers and easily kept

• will compete with many counterparts for profitability
