Jonsland Texel Sheep Pedigree Sheep For Sale Blue Texel Sheep Commercial Sheep Flock Sheep News

December

  • We are sorting what rams are going to be sold at what sales. We have entered into the National Scrapie Plan Welsh Ewe Scheme. They are coming to test our yearling ewes and ewe lambs them first week in August 2003. We have already tested our Ram Lambs and they are all Group 1 or Group 2's.

November

  • The ground has gone very wet. We have put about 300 lambs in on creep feed. The pedigree Texel ewes that are entered for the sales have been scanned (see ewes entered for sales for results) we have coloured them with bloom ready to sell. We have lost quite a few sheep from eating acorns, I think it must be a bad year for them. They are all over Tynybryn so its hard to keep the sheep away from them.

October

  • After a lovely September, October is here in force. Its rained most of the month. We had some ewes to repeat to rams but not to bad.

September

  • The Pedigree ewes have all been put to the Rams using sponges and A.I , we run a ram with them for the repeats that get served naturally. We try to lamb around the first week in February.

August

  • We are busy getting Texel Rams ready for the sales, and to sell at home. The sales we sell at are Chelford, Shrewsbury and Welshpool Texel club sales. They are held at the end of August and beginning of September.
  • All of our commercial and pedigree lambs have been weaned from their mothers. They are brought from our hill farm (Dolfor Hill) down to the lower land and go onto the ground we cut hay and silage from at the end of June. There is lovely aftermath of fresh grass now which will finish lambs. We go through the lambs checking for the ones that are ready to be sent off once a week.
